Baranof Island Housing Authority Undertakes Tribal Housing Needs Assessment

Baranof Island Housing Authority is conducting a comprehensive assessment of Tribal housing needs in Sitka in partnership with the Sitka Tribe of Alaska. The assessment will include a review of existing data, a community survey, interviews with key stakeholders, and data workshops. Research will be conducted by Juneau-based Rain Coast Data, which has completed several recent housing needs assessments in the region.

Sitka Tribal Housing Survey Now Open!

A comprehensive survey of Sitka Tribal households is open now and will run through November 21, 2023. The survey is part of a larger project (the Sitka Tribal Housing Needs Assessment 2023) that aims to help BIHA understand the current housing situations of tribal citizens living in Sitka, and the challenges facing Sitka Tribe of Alaska tribal citizens who would like to reconnect with Sitka.

Everyone at BIHA would like to extend a big thank you to David Goade for his 5 years of service as BIHA’s Executive Director. David began working for BIHA in 2015 and retired June 30, 2020. David intends to remain in Sitka with his family after he retires and enjoy the great outdoors.
